Hometown Hero Spotlight: Officer Darryl Owens

05/04/2017

Each year Blue Hills Bank asks members of the community to nominate local individuals and organizations that have had major impacts on their communities. The top 12 heroes are selected by a committee and featured in the following year’s Hometown Hero Calendar.

May 2017 Hometown Hero

Boston Police Officer Darryl Owens connects with neighborhood teens through the nationally recognized “Boston Police Teen Academy,” a program he started six years ago. The Boston Police Teen Academy connects students to police officers in their communities while building their character and life skills. Officer Owens embodies the curriculum, on and off the force, and empowers his students to become liaisons in their neighborhoods. He’s continually looking for more opportunities to help children at risk, as he started volunteering his time to start a “Saturday Academy” at a local elementary school.

Each Hometown Hero is awarded $1,000 toward a charity of their choice. Officer Darryl Owens is sending his $1,000 donation from the Blue Hills Bank Charitable Foundation to HOPE Worldwide NYAC.

Thank you, Officer Owens, for your dedication to helping youth in our community.
