Hometown Hero Spotlight: Catholic Memorial High School

Each year Blue Hills Bank asks members of the community to nominate local individuals and organizations that have had major impacts on their communities. The top 12 heroes are selected by a committee and featured in the following year’s Hometown Hero Calendar.

October 2017 Hometown Hero

For the last 13 years, the boys of Catholic Memorial High School have been donning pink and proudly marching in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk in Boston every October. More than 500 students (nearly three quarters of the school population) participate, making Catholic Memorial’s presence a force in the fight against breast cancer. These young men are challenged every day to “develop character, expand their mind, and deepen their hearts” and succeed in doing so by walking for their mothers, aunts, sisters and grandmothers.

Each Hometown Hero is awarded $1,000 toward a charity of their choice. Catholic Memorial High School is sending its $1,000 donation from the Blue Hills Bank Foundation to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Thank you, Catholic Memorial High School, for your continued dedication to helping in the fight against breast cancer.
