Each year Blue Hills Bank asks members of the community to nominate local individuals and organizations that have had major impacts on their communities. The top 12 heroes are selected by a committee and featured in the following year’s Hometown Hero Calendar.
MEET LORRIE PEARSON,
JONAH MUNIZ & MABEL GONDRES
August 2018 Hometown Heroes
Lorrie Pearson (left), Jonah Muniz (center) and Mabel Gondres (right) are members of the Hyde Square Task Force, an organization that believes that youth have immense potential…and they are not wrong when it comes to these three! When researching how to raise money for a neighborhood ice skating rink, these sleuthing teens discovered that annual fundraisers were promised to Boston’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) as part of a contract agreement to build the new Boston Garden. Had the fundraisers taken place, the city could have benefitted from a potential $13.8 million in funding.
The teens exposed the breach of contract at a press conference and worked with DCR to procure some of the lost revenue for Boston neighborhoods. Persistent, dedicated and willing to stand up for what is right, these teens are true community heroes with a bright future.
These teens are sending their $1,000 donation from the Blue Hills Bank Foundation to the Hyde Square Task Force, Inc.
Thank you, Lorrie, Jonah and Mabel for dedicating your time to doing what’s right for the community.
